2010 Oscars Red Carpet: The Shoes the Stars Wore

Underneath the gorgeous gowns at this year's Oscars were some just as stunning shoes.  We all know that the ensemble is never complete without a nice pair of heels so let's take a look at what these Hollywood actresses wore on the red carpet.

Best Actress nominee Carey Mulligan chose a pair of simple black strappy Prada platforms to go with her embellished Prada frock while Zoe Saldana donned some rich purple t-strap pumps by Givenchy to match her multi-colored ruffled gown.  One of my personal favorites of the night,  Sandra Bullock slipped on a beautiful pair of silver Jimmy Choo peeptoe slingbacks to wear with her Marchesa creation.  Last but not least, Mariah Carey showed off her legs and neutral colored Christian Louboutins in this one-shouldered navy dress.

So many looks, so many shoes.  Tell us, which were your favorite pair of the night?

Sneak Peek – Britney Spears for Candie's

Candie's, the footwear brand made popular in the 1970's with styles as sweet and colorful as their name, has hired the infamous pop star Britney Spears for their Spring 2010 campaign. They frequently work with leading ladies of the tabloids, Jenny McCarthy and Fergie donned the shoes in recent memory, and now Spears is stepping into their shoes, so to say.

I'm surprised I'm saying this considering it's Britney, but Candie's seems to have really struck gold with this one. Shot through the lenses of photog greats like Annie Leibovitz and Terry Richardson, Britney's older, happier, and scandal-free self seems to have been captured (Annie's take is my favorite – Britney looks carefree and…dare I say it…sophisticated!), and there's a good possibility the campaign will strike a positive chord with the millions of young Britney fans. Add to this the accessibility of Kohls where the shoes will be sold, and I think they have a winner.

So what about the shoes? They are, in a word, adorable. Floral print peep-toe heels would put a smile on any girl's face, and the black dress heels Spears dons in the Annie Leibovitz shot are classic but youthful.

Catherine Malandrino Fall 2010 Shoes

RWH Fashion Contributor, Kristin Booker, of FashionStyleBeauty.com was at the Catherine Malandrino presentation during New York Fashion Week and shared with us some of the photos of  the  French designer's shoes for Fall 2010.  Ankle boots with funky turned-up toes and whipstitching were slightly reminiscent of Western influences, but the leopard platforms with tall heels were distinctive and cool and anything but Americana.

What do you think – could you pull a silhouette like this off?

Beverly Feldman – Shoe Designer and…Blogger?

Ok, Beverly Feldman may be known for her whimsical and creative shoes, but you ain't seen nothing until you've read her blog. The shoe maven's live-out-loud personality is, not surprisingly, even more raucous in her writing, and it is one of the few things I've read recently that has made me laugh out loud.

For instance, right after Valentine's Day the newly divorced Beverly posted about her first time dabbling in the dating site "JDate". You'll have to read it yourself as I truly won't do it justice here, but I did learn to a) always invest in a professional photo, b) NO female likes Brazilian waxes, and c) there is absolutely nothing wrong with ogling the male trainers at the gym over attempting to date online.

Visit Beverly's blog yourself here and let us know your favorite part!

Break a Sweat in Jimmy Choos

This time we're not talking about running in heels. In fact, we're speaking of the brand known for its beautifully sculpted stilettos deciding to try its proverbial hand in sneakers, or as the British refer to them: trainers.

For those of you who this sounds appealing to (and we'd really like to hear from you on why), owning a pair will set you back a reported £395. This, for the record, is about half of what you can get a pair of Jimmy Choo sandals for (or what you can find a pair for on sale). According to the Telegraph, this is a burgeoning market that many designers have dipped their toes into and it's not unusual for them to command sky-high prices such as "around £545 for Christian Louboutin high-tops, and a staggering £800 for a Rick Owens pair."

The rubber-soled shoes decked out with materials like suede, patent leather, and exotic skins will be available in May in Jimmy Choo stores and on JimmyChoo.com.

We pose this question: What would make you buy a pair of Jimmy Choo high-tops? Is fashion's return to the 80's and 90's enough to get you to rock a pair of luxury brand kicks? Is it enough to be comfortable and still say you're wearing a pair of Choos? Or do you think this idea falls, well…flat?

Exclusive Interview with Michelle Smith of Milly

Women gathered at the newly designed Clinique counter in Bloomingdales on 59th St. in Manhattan tonight to shop for fabulous makeup and to meet the designer Michelle Smith, the woman behind the colorful and beloved Milly label. Fans lined up between special runway shows being held in the back to meet Michelle and have her sign their special edition Clinique Gift With Purchase Milly makeup bags (that is a really gorgeous Milly print, and free with any $25 purchase).

Smith, known for her colorful prints and patterns, looked gorgeous in a demure black dress, and one would never guess just by looking at her that she'll be celebrating the label's 10th year this May…she doesn't look old enough to be fashion elite! But celebrate she will, although she said she has yet to plan the party. Perhaps after the madness of New York Fashion Week?

Speaking of Fashion Week, the Milly show is scheduled for Wednesday, February 17th when the Fall 2010 collection will debut. But before we jump that far ahead, I wanted to know what her favorite trend or color palette will be for Spring. "I thought black was really refreshing for Spring this time", said Michelle. "I've always done so much color…black is really key and sophisticated. But also, I am a color girl, and my favorite color is really bright bright shocking pink!”

So what will we see in her much anticipated Fall 2010 collection? "[It has] a Parisian inspiration…kind of a mix of sporty and feminine and a little school girl kind of twist in the collection. A lot of shorts, kiltie skirts and beautiful fabrics…I'm really excited!"

But we think Milly fans really have cause to rejoice. Could plans in fact be in order for a Milly shoe line to be launched?  "Yes! A new collection is in the works and if all goes well I'll launch for spring 2011!" I'm sure we'll be able to expect Michelle's classic style of Manhattan meets Palm Beach and we couldn't be happier. And besides, the woman has great taste in shoes as it is. Besides her go-to Chanel flats and a penchant for Roger Vivier, she remarked "In my closet I have tons of Manolos…Manolo Blahnik makes the shoes for my runway so I always order extra pairs for myself!"

Geren Ford – Left, Left, Left, Left, Left, Right, Left

The Geren Ford presentation held at the Crosby Street Hotel went off without a hitch during the blizzard that hit NYC.  Everyone enjoyed cocktails and mingling before the models marched in single file like soliders.  The Fall 2010 collection was military meets demure mixed with 20's flapper reminiscent hair and makeup.  While the overall feel of the presentation took us back in time, the footwear was the perfect pairing for an updated, inspiring, and completely on point look. Knee high boots, ribboned platforms, and ankle boots rounded out the small but very well-executed line of footwear!
