WHO: Nicholas K
INSPIRED BY: The Arctic was the designer duo’s inspiration for this season. Spacey music and re-occurring prints reminded us of the Northern Lights and utilitarian separates were rooted in the wilderness.
KEY TRENDS: Layering, layering, layering! It’s the Nicholas K specialty and that was showcased through the functionality of their pieces—think built-in hoods and lots of outerwear (some with straps that enabled them to be worn like backpacks). Color palettes included “polar”—a creamy white, “coal”—a dark smoky grey and “mercury”—a blue-green. Tailored harem pants in sweatshirt materials, capes and knits comprised the casual women’s looks, while mixed-media leggings, draped open-back shirts with leather detailing and breezy asymmetrical dresses with sheer panels made up the collection’s other half.
Two favorites of ours included a reversed cardigan with button closures down the middle of the back, and a navy and white plaid jacket—one of the show’s opening looks.
ACCESSORIES: Models were equipped with trapper hats, ski goggles, pyrite and mineral necklaces, and very dark smoked out eyes. Hair was slicked back. Women’s wedges, designed by Nicholas, were accessorized with bandage wrapping that covered legs from the ankle to half way up the knee. Men’s shoes were provided by Danner boots and Acorn footwear.
MUSIC: “Shades of Marble” by Trentemoller, “1996” by Eskimo, “Lost Sight” by Das Glow.
SPOTTED: Former Real Housewife of New York Alex McCord, Alexa Ray Joel.
