SCENT OF A LADY:

Gaga's Perfume to Hit Stores In September
by JESSICA TUMIO

The far-reaching successes of Lady Gaga‘s debut album The Fame aren’t over yet. Soon, her first fragrance also titled “Fame” will hit stores and we’re beyond curious to check out the scent. The fragrance is a product of a collaboration between Gaga’s own Haus Laboratories in Paris and fragrance giant, Coty Inc.

We couldn’t be more curious about the nature of the scent, mostly because Gaga had told an Australian radio program, the Kyle and Jackie O Show, that the perfume is made with blood and semen. Yeah we cringed a bit too—but apparently neither of those two bodily ingredients are listed on the label. It’s made up of three accords; dark, inspired by the deadly plant belladonna, sensual which carries honey, saffron and apricot nectar, and the light accord will feature crushed tiger orchid and jasmine sambac.

Given the pop star’s reluctance to the orthodox, it comes as no surprise that her perfume also follows an unusual composition structure. It does not follow the typical pyramid structure where notes range from top to bottom, starting with the top and ending up towards the bottom notes the longer its worn. “Fame” follows a “trampoline” structure, which means that notes will rise randomly, and depending on whether the fragrance is rubbed.

Also interesting about the fragrance is that it starts out black in the bottle but vanishes to clear when it’s spritzed. The reason? Gaga creatively says to mimick the elusive nature of fame itself.

The fragrance will come in 3 sizes – 100-ml. for $79, 50-ml. for $55, and the 30-ml. for $42. If those price points are too steep, there will be a $19 rollerball version of 10-ml. available as well as a 5 oz. bath soap bar. Though it will become available on August 22, it is now ready for pre-order on macys.com. It will also be sold at Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Sephora to total 3,000 department and specialty stores in the U.S.
