MBFW FALL 2012 DAY 7: Whitney Eve
Whitney Port’s first runway show was full of fun, flirty girl power as expressed through heavily sequined separates strutting down the runway to Beyonce’s “Run the World” anthem.
The MTV reality star turned-designer notably took inspiration from an antique kaleidoscope she found in her grandmother’s house, which was evident through her usage of graphic shapes, jewel tones and collision of luxe materials.
Day dresses and tops were heavy on the ruffled sleeves while evening cocktail numbers and shorts were embellished with a surge of sparkle and beading.
Floral separates (some with this fashion week’s favorite trend: peplums), velvet wrap dresses and slouch pants were paired with oversized cardigans for a spattering of laid back, yet polished looks.
Asymmetrical rise and fall hemlines in dark color palettes lent a nice contrast to fuzzy sweaters and some of the more cutesy frocks.
Overall any of these pieces could easily be incorporated into one’s already-existing wardrobe to add a bit of whimsical flair. The collection is utterly wearable for the modern girl, and that’s because Port designs true to her personal style, which has dubbed her a fashion icon even off the cameras of The Hills and The City.
A pair of swingy orange shorts with sequined spots are on my personal must-buy list.—LAUREN DOYLE
