Over the past few months the amount of heels being worn has started to increase at a rapid pace. Who’s driving this trend?

Well it’s not who you’d think. Sorry ladies, but men are sporting heels now too. These men’s heels or “Meels” as many are calling them, are becoming increasingly popular, from the office to the high halls of fashion. In some cases men have been found wearing heels that are over four inches.

After a phone interview with Joseph Ungoco, Fashion Director of Runwayresource.net; we discovered that some men have been sporting this trend for years now. “I’m positively addicted to the YSL Johnny boot – with the 2-inch heel,” says Ungoco.  “At Fashion Week you’ll see me literally “running” in them as I dash from show to show.”

Further conversation revealed that the height factor is a huge reason for this up and coming trend, with men wanting to increase their height and improve their posture through the use of heels. “Being 5’10”, a YSL Johnny boot gives me that extra little boost to keep the playing field even,” says Ungoco.  Personally I am very far behind when it comes to the latest trends in fashion, however this trend is something that I could conservatively sport (with a very small heel). — MAX McCLASKIE
