HEAD-TO-TOE BEAUTY: DIY manicures
Manicures are expensive. That’s why so many ladies choose to take nail care into their own hands. One of the major complaints that comes with nail polish application is just how quickly it chips. Here are 5 tips that will keep your fingertips fresh no matter what color you paint them.
The nail polish you choose is of the utmost importance. OPI is the highest quality brand on the market. In addition to a startling array of color choices, it is known for its longevity. Obsessive Compulsives is another one I love. It is vegan, cruelty free and has a small but really fun collection of colors.- Before adding color, prep the nails with a base coat. This step will ensure the polish lasts longer while providing a smoother surface for the polish to adhere to.
- As you apply both the base coat, the color coats (and the top coat, that will follow), be sure that each layer is dry before applying the next.
- When painting the nails (base, color, top coat), be sure to apply it right up to and over the edge of your nails. This step is essential to preventing those pesky little chips that love to happen right at the top of your nail.
- Apply a layer of topcoat after the final layer of color. This protective barrier will prevent chipping, fading and deliver long lasting shine. To make your polish last, apply a fresh coat of topcoat everyday.
Nail polish is a great way to express yourself and make fashionable head-to-toe statement. Using the 5 tips above, you can take the hassle out and keep nail polish what it should be… fun. — NATHAN JOHNSON

I NEVER PAINT OVER THE UPPER EDGE. I’LL TRY THAT.

Another great tip. I also have never painted over the tip of my nails. I’ll have to try it now that my nails are growing again. Thanks.

Thanks for the great tips Nathan! I do my nails all the time and I have started painting over the tips after watching a manicurist do it and it does help the manicure last. OPI is one of my faves. Keep up the great work.
