THE (UGLY) TRUTH ABOUT LASH ENHANCERS

Even the woman who claims to wear no make-up carries a tube of mascara in her purse. That may be the fundamental reasoning behind why these ‘lash enhancing’ products have become such a hot commodity in today’s beauty market. After all, if people were happy with what they had, there would be no need to change it.

Eyelash enhancers… If you haven’t tried one, you have, at the very least, heard the buzz. The market started with a few products and now it is virtually flooded with options. They all boast the ability to turn your short and stubby lashes into lush, thick ones. But do they work? And if they do, at what cost?

Before analyzing the top four products on the market, I want to talk about an ingredient that is commonly found in enhancing products. You may have already heard about it. If you have seen the mile long list of small print that follows the print ands and commercials for several of the ‘lash growth’ products, then I am certain you have heard of it.

Prostaglandin Analogues

This ingredient is derived from bimatoprost, lantanoprost and or others…all of which are glaucoma medications. A side effect of this medication is the growth of long and lush lashes, but it does come with a series of side effects. Prostaglandins have been known to darken the color of the iris (changes can be as drastic as blue turning brown), swollen retina and blurry vision, red/brown rings around the eyes, redness in the eyes, itchy lid and irritation. Several of these side effects are often permanent. Later in life, early use of the prostaglandins can build a resistance to the medication at a time when you actually need it (to prevent blindness).

The Top Four

  1. Latisse: this little tube has dominated the prescription market. It has the same level of bimatoprost (the prostaglandin) that is found in the glaucoma medications. When it is applied to the lash line, it prompts great results.
  2. Revitalash: utilizes the prostaglandin Lantanoprost to generate results similar to Latisse. It is the most popular of the non-prescription enhancers on the market.
  3. Enormous Lash: Of the top four, this is the most unique. It is the only one that successfully achieves longer, thicker lashes without prostaglandins. The formula contains a complex of arginine (amino acid necessary for hair growth), alanyl glutamine (peptide that encourages the increase of growth hormones) and saccharomyces (yeast fermented in copper ions, this is one of the most effective hair growth ingredients on the market). Without the derivatives of medication, this enhancer gets results just as beautiful as the prostaglandin containing competitors.
  4. Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die For: The leading two choices garner their results primarily from the use of the prostaglandin analogues, while the third takes a much more natural approach. The Lashes to Die For combines the two methods, using both natural botanicals and a prostaglandin complex.

Here is the skinny…

Product Name Product Rank Result Time Prostaglandin Free Individual Cost Annual Cost

Latisse                1             4-8 Weeks           NO             $120/month       $1440

Revitalash           2             3-10 Weeks         NO             $150                 $450

Enormous Lash    3             4-8 Weeks           YES            $95                  $190

Lashes to Die …    4             4-8 Weeks           NO             $125                $250

Longer lashes are a dream of many women, but are they worth the risk of changing your eye color, blurry vision, redness, itching, irritation and possible future blindness?

I love this product! I started using it last August because I cut off a good portion of my lashes with my eyelash curler. I took before pictures to see it really worked and kept doing it every week for about three months. My lashes where longer and thicker.

This year I wanted to test the product because I had growned accustumed to the lengh of my lashes and stoped using it for a few weeks. My lashes became what they used to be and I couldn’t stand it. I got right back on it and they’re back again! One tube lasts me at least six months and most days I apply it twice a day.

I highly recomend this product, plus it there are no side effects.
