How to Wear: Resort 2010

As we approach the holidays, a number of winter boots may be in sight, but in fashion– it’s all about rocking what’s hot right now while looking forward to next season’s styles.  A variety of gorgeous sandals and resort styles have already started to arrive online and in department stores everywhere.  Since it’s never too early to prepare for your wardrobe for next season, here’s a look at some of the biggest footwear trends you’ll see for Spring 2010.  We’ll tell you how to wear them and show you styles that will work for every budget and take you from day to night.

Neutrals

Neutral-colored sandals not only elongate your legs, they also work as a great contrast with any colorful outfit.  This style is timeless and a great investment piece for both work and play.  Choose a more conservative pump for day like this pair by Prada and a strappy pair like these by Pour La Victoire for the evening.

Snakeskin

Go wild with a pair of reptile-inspired shoes as snakeskin is coming back in full force in footwear next season.  Whether in a multi-colored print, one shade, with a heel or no heel, pump it up with a touch of python.  This versatile style can be worn with jeans or a dress for a hot date.  This pair of Jimmy Choo sandals is a classic choice while these Maxstudio metallic sandals are another fabulous and exotic pick.

Platforms

Once temperatures start to rise, so will the number of sky-high platforms we'll be seeing.  A pair of these are ultra sexy and if you’re going to try just one trend, the platform sandal is the way to go.  The front gives extra height and comfort and although we haven't hit winter yet, there are already so many options out there in this style that it will be difficult to choose just one.  These YSL denim platforms are completely lust-worthy while these nautical-themed platforms by Nine West are just as cute, but definitely more accessible.

Bright Suede

Dark hues usually dominate the winter season, so don’t be afraid to try a bright pop of color when the weather begins to warm up.  The change of seasons gives us a cue to try something completely different like these beautiful Miu Miu turquoise suede pumps.  No longer just for fall or winter, suede in a jewel tone also makes a great material to wear into spring.  For another option, try this raspberry colored pair by the always stylish yet affordable Steve Madden.  These will look absolutely fab with a simple black dress or paired with a printed dress.

Colorful Gladiator Sandals

The gladiator sandal has become a staple in every woman’s closet.  No longer just a trend, this must-have shoe has come far from just basic metallic gold and silver.  Shades of every color have become available in this Grecian-style shoe so update this look with a colorful flat style for an everyday, casual look.  Use this bright yellow pair by Proenza Schouler as an inspiration and choose a pair like these from Aldo for your next gladiator pick.

Feminine Details

Bows and floral details are taking over footwear.  While flowers and bows are usually synonymous with spring attire, these fun and flirty details are sure to be a hit on a variety of shoes choices next season.  Show off a nice little surprise on your feet by wearing a pair with a simple white eyelet dress or jeans and a basic tee.  Valentino's Side-Bow Espadrille is oh-so adorable or opt for these by Bandolino for a less expensive option.  If you're a floral fan, take a look at these Dolce & Gabbana thong sandals or this pair by Poetic Licence.

Peep Toe Booties

The warmer weather does not mean you have to give up your favorite ankle boots.  Show off your pedicure again with a peep-toe bootie style.  If bright colors aren’t your thing, this popular look has enough edge, but is still completely appropriate for spring.  The cool cutout details of these Valentino ankle boots would work well with a mini dress or black shorts and a loose-fitting blouse.  This half-gladiator, half-ankle boot version by Nine West makes another great choice for bootie lovers out there.

Fun Flats

Ballet flats are always a great seasonal transition piece.  When the weather is neither warm enough for sandals nor cool enough for boots, flats are an excellent in between choice.  Each season introduces many different styles with lots of embellishments, prints and designs.  Wear a fun animal print pair like these from Oscar de la Renta and French Sole with a sundress or a pair of skinny jeans.  Comfy and cute, a pair of flats will never disappoint.
