Gettin' Lucky
Last night in the heart of NYC’s SoHo, Lucky Brand hosted a party for two very talented students from the local Parsons School of Design. The two were being honored for their winning handbag designs for the famous brand, and the event also kicked off the launch of these two exclusive bags.
One style, designed by Senior Jordan Weymouth Richards, is a must-have spacious shoulder bag that features vibrant stripes of colorful leather and a chic, boho feel. Jordan stated that she drew her inspiration from such exotic roots as “the Congo River and its curvilinear lines” and the “layers of the jungle”. And although Jordan will be graduating with the goal of being a childrens-wear designer, she has studied accessory design in London and looks up to designers like Gareth Pugh.
The other gifted student is Benyam Assefa who is also currently a senior at Parsons. Benyam designed a black leather purse accented with four outer pockets and contrast stitching that would find a welcome spot in any woman’s wardrobe. He will be graduating with a focus in menswear, but he said that he loves designing women’s accessories because he can indulge in more creativity than menswear often allows. When asked if he needed any women’s input on the bag he gave a resounding “no!” , but added that the Lucky challenge gave him a welcome and valuable branding opportunity that will no doubt serve both designers well in the future.
To get your hands on your very own limited-edition Lucky bag by one (or both!) of these up-and-coming young designers, head to the Lucky store nearest you or to LuckyBrand.com.
