Nathan Johnson - Get the Look: RWH Fall 2009

editThis make-up look is a favorite of mine. Perhaps you recognize it as one of the featured looks from the editorial story in the current RWH e-zine. If you don’t recognize it, then you had better click on the link on the homepage so you can see for yourself (after you read this how to, of course).

The bold pop of color, framed by darkness is both sexy and unexpected. If pink is not your thing, have no fear because the bold color can easily be replaced by any color you choose. And, if you are not feeling bold, the color can also be replaced by a more neutral shade. But I hope you’ll try the bold one, you only live once after all.

To Get The Look…

Complexion

Anything you do to your eyes, cheeks and lips will only look better if it is set on a flawless face. On our model Nikee, I used Magic Salmon Concealer by Eve Pearl ($35, www.evepearl.com) under her eyes. This perfectly canceled out the darkness while adding the perfect amount of brightness. On her skin, I used Natural FX by Cover FX ($40, www.sephora.com). Together, the two of these gave her the dewy glow I was after.

Eyes

To get the bold pop on the lid, I started by applying White Flash Color by Make Up For Ever ($18, www.sephora.com). This thick cream make-up will completely cancel out your skin tone and allow the truest read of color on the lid. Once the white was applied from lash line to crease, I tapped in Cherry Bomb Loose Colour by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics ($10, www.occmakeup.com). These little pots of color are the make-up find of they century. They have revolutionized my make-up. The pigment load is so high these babies last all day and they glide on like a dream. Take this tip from me…buy all of them; they are astounding.

In the crease and along the outer corner, I swept Onyx by Make-up Designory ($13.50, www.shop.mud.com). Using an angle brush, I also pulled the Onyx along the lower lash line. To get the shiny line along the upper lashes, I used Draw The Line Liquid Liner by Beauty Society ($28, http://joannlong.societyskincare.com). This stunning liner dries to a beautiful glossy finish. And, it gets even better, in addition to defining and opening the eyes, it has enhancing ingredients that will actually grow your lashes. Last step on the eyes is Mascara. I applied 3 coats to the upper and two to the lower to bring those babies to unbelievable lengths.

Cheeks

To get the beautiful glow on the cheeks, I used True Love Cheek Stain by Tarte ($30, www.tartecosmetics.com). For the added highlight on the cheekbone and inner apple area, I swept a double dose of  Mary-Lou Manizer by The Balm ($22, www.sephora.com). I swept an extra touch on the bridge of the nose, the chin, forehead and under the brow bone for a little extra pop.

Lips

To give her mouth a stung, yet bright look, I used two Beauty Society Lip Glistens ($14, http://joannlong.societyskincare.com). First, I applied a light application of Vamp to the entire mouth. Then, in the center of the lower lip, I swept a touch of Valley Girl. The darker Vamp gives the lips sexy depth while the lighter Valley Girl adds a highlight that really shows off the pout.

That’s how easy it is to get this beautiful bold look. Now, as I told you, if you want to switch it up, simply change the Cherry Bomb to another color. If you take my advice and buy all of the Obsessive Compulsive Loose Colours, you will have a slew of awesome colors to choose from.

There you have it….now, have fun!
