Try the Trend: Over-The-Knee Boots at Any Price

Try the Trend: Over the Knee Boots at Any Price

You’ve seen them in all the magazines and everywhere you look. Yes, ladies, the hottest trend in footwear for fall is the over-the-knee boot and if you’ve haven’t seen it already, it’s coming soon to a closet, sidewalk or an “aren’t-you-jealous-of-my-new-boots?” conversation near you.

Why is this trend so hot? Over-the-knee boots bring two great concepts together in very alluring style: coverage and sex appeal. Since the boot is taller, it covers more skin than its mid-height or ankle cut counterparts and yet, there’s something incredibly vampy and rocker chic about wearing a boot that covers the knee since it immediately draws attention to your fabulous legs. No matter how you choose to wear this trend, all eyes will definitely be on you.

If you’re thinking there is no way you personally can wear an over-the-knee boot, you’re wrong! It’s really all about proportions and how you style the boot. Here are some quick Do’s and Don’ts to get a leg up on this fabulous fall trend:

Do wear your over-the-knee boots with fitted denim or leggings tucked into them (think skinny or cigarette jeans). Don’t wear boyfriend, baggy or Bootcut jeans over or rolled into the jeans. You’re going for a clean, straight line that will make you look as tall and lean as possible.

Do pair your OTK boots with a skirt or dress that has a hemline that stops either right over or is slightly shorter than the boots for instant sex appeal. Don’t forget that the higher the hemline, the more sex appeal you have so save the mini-dress for evening and keep a more modest length for the office. Another Don’t is to wear a skirt or dress that covers the boot completely. You want to show these boots off, not shroud them from public view. These boots are made to be seen on the scene!

Do keep proportions simple and chic with OTK boots. Long, clean lines gives the wearer the illusion of looking slimmer and taller and keeps the focus on the quality of the clothes (think layering long tees and sweaters, sweater dresses, leggings and long tunics, simple blouses and skinny jeans, etc). Feel free to play with statement necklaces or bracelets to keep the eye moving up and down. Don’t wear too many ruffles or distracting details when working this look. The boots are the statement piece of the outfit, so let them do the talking.

Most importantly, Do try this trend and Don’t be afraid of it! Over-the-knee boots can be an instant wardrobe changing item that you can try in many styles and at various price points to suit your own budget from cash and carry to serious investment pieces.

This is a FAB look, but somehow I don't think everyone can pull it off. Take me, I'm only 5'3…I think I'm too short to wear these boots. They would swallow me up, I think. Oh how I wish i could rock these though…Loving those Nine West ones. Only $139?? That's a great price. My other favs are the Louboutins, of course;-)

These are Bah-nana's! I just bought my pair of over the knee boots from Delman. I rocked them for the first time a few days ago…I must have been stopped at least 10 times that day by women asking me where I got them! They are AMAZING! I love this look!

p.s. Tamisha, I'm only 5'4"…the key is making sure you find a pair that works for you!

Okay – I am over 40 (groan) . . . am I too old for OTK boots? I am thinking of wearing a knee lenth skirt with a side pleat – show the boot but try to "act my age". Any thoughts?

To Alactraz, you can wear OTK boots at any age, just make sure they are great quality, so they look classy, wear a long skirt (your idea was great) so you don't look "Pretty Woman"-ish ;) Keep the boots simple and you'll look great. Age is a state of mind, so act and dress how you feel!
