Henri Bendel: Trying their hand in shoemaking
If you already love Henri Bendel for their gorgeous accessories, handbags and clothing, you'll be especially excited about what they have decided to add to their line up for the summer. Their 5th Avenue location has teamed up with custom designed sandal brand Tuccia Di Capri. What does this mean for you? You have the opportunity to head inside of Henri Bendel (on 5th Ave at 56th Street) and design your own sandal fit to your foot, ready for wear in just half an hour!
While we were taking a walk down 5th Ave., we couldn't help but notice the cobblers in the front window hammering away at the soles of sandals. We stopped inside and the first thing we noticed was a miniature shoe workshop that had been set up in the front corner of the store. On display were several styles of finished Tuccia Di Capri sandals which allows the customer to look at for inspiration for their own sandals. Some sandals were heavily embellished with gold and glittery jewels, while others just had a few simple crossing straps. The shoe prices are $168-$408, depending on how you embellish the shoe and what materials you choose.
We found out how the shoe building process works, and it's actually pretty simple: you pick the heel height, the material, the embellishments and the style of strap. Then, you let the cobblers work their magic! Throughout the process, you are asked to try on the sandal and it gets fitted accordingly to your foot. In about 30 minute's time, the sandals are ready to be worn out (or carried home if you want to display them as masterpieces!).
