Boots on a Budget: The Best Under $200

We at RWH can pine for $1,200 Chloe boots as well as the next girl, but unfortunately the stuff that dreams are made of tend to be just that…dreams. So, we've learned to always keep our eyes open for a bargain; i.e. high style at low(er) prices. Believe us, eating Ramen noodles and Taco Bell for 2 weeks to justify spending what equates to half your rent or mortgage is soooo overrated.

It's true that life is all about balance, and of course this extends to one of life's biggest pleasures: shopping! So while we'll be the first to recommend investing in, well, ‘investment' pieces (those classics that will literally last you a lifetime like that gorgeous pair of sleek, black Prada pumps or those patent leather croc slingbacks that you can picture yourself wearing into your 70's), we also appreciate and promote the art of the bargain.

This week we're covering boots, the hot-right-now, no-foresight-necessary styles in all their trendy glory. But since each one rings in at under $200, they're guilt-free as well. We've scoured the web for styles you can buy today for some instant gratification…or at least bookmark for your next payday.

Ankle Boots – Arguably Fall's most fashionable style of boot, the possibilities are endless even at a lower price point. From ruched to open-toe and even fringed, it's enough to make a girl's head spin.

Our Top Choice: The ‘Gizmo' by Steve Madden – $149.95

While we love the open-toe look, it's hard to justify buying something like that when you have to deal with snow and freezing temperatures (like we do). Call us biased if you will, but I think we found the perfect compromise: the Gizmo by Steve Madden. Its cutout front satisfies a craving for edgy style, but it still manages to offer a dose of sensibility.

Riding Boots – This style of boot is sought out for its refined and sophisticated look that comes at no cost to your comfort. A riding boot will play the role of your basic go-to boot this season and dressed up or down, it's nothing if not versatile.

Our Top Choice: The ‘June' by Franco Sarto – $189.00

At $189 you can't go wrong with this boot in either black or brown. The elasticized goring along the sides means a comfortable fit, and its sturdy, solid heel offers height with stability. We love the silver buckle accent at the top that adds a touch of elegance.

Over-the-Knee Boots – Super sexy and way ahead of the style curve, a thigh-high boot may not be for the faint of fashion. We say don't be afraid to try this style out, especially at this price!

Our Top Choice: The ‘Flattering' by Nine West – $189.00
Choose siren-worthy glossy black patent leather or chic brown suede, whichever style speaks most to your inner runway model. This show stopping style is remarkably wearable with its low heel and no-nonsense style, plus it's a shoe-in as a statement piece.

Motorcycle Boots - Indulge your tough-girl side with a pair of motorcycle boots. Their place on the fall fashion totem pole means you can find a style with feminine elements to soften what's traditionally a tough look.

Our Top Choice: The Motorcycle Boot by Madison Harding – $169.95

Harness straps and tough looking hardware are balanced nicely by a stacked heel. Wondering what to wear it with? Try them with a chunky sweater dress, leggings, or your fallback pair of skinny jeans.

The 'Just Because' Boot – Let's face it – there's always going to be something we need, but sometimes it's just more fun to buy something we want. Rationality and desire may not always point in the same direction but it's good to treat yourself every once in a while. Everything in moderation, right?

Our Top Choice: The ‘Cher' by Dolce Vita – $152.00

This sexy cut-out boot called out to us immediately, and at only $152 it certainly looks like it cost a whole lot more. Don't expect to traipse through any snow covered streets in these, but do expect to be the envy of the holiday party. Want further justification for this fashion indulgence? This boot will be the perfect Spring accessory.

Weather Worthy Boots – Don't forget that Winter's coming and that means dealing with elements you won't want to subject your other footwear to. If the rainboot craze has taught us anything, it's that functional can be fashionable.

Our Top Choice: Hunter Boots – $115.00

Normally spending over $100 on rain boots would be considered absurd, but these wellies by Hunter Boots can practically be considered investment pieces because of their "classic" status and they're durability. Just add the fleece sock for a few dollars more and they'll keep you warm on top of being waterproof and comfortable, features that are invaluable for those of us in colder climates who must deal with snowstorms and the like. Factor in that by wearing these you'll save your other shoes and boots? In the words of Mastercard: Priceless.

I've had my eye on the Hunter rain boots, but I can't for the life of me decide on a color. Any opinions?

  4. Morgan Says:

I saw a woman with them on this weekend in the dark hunter (ha!) green color and they looked great. Very classic. Otherwise, I really like the red and maroon colors.
