Let Your Style Rome Free
With so many trends on the horizon for spring, it's lucky for you that you can either jump on the gladiator sandal bandwagon or forgo it altogether. You've certainly got options. We've heard mixed emotions from you fashionistas out there, and it's a love, hate relationship. I for one happen to like the new twist on an old Roman look, but have seen a fair share of styles not worthy of a second glance. The first time these strappy creations came into existence was ages ago. Today they've evolved into silhouettes such as flats, heels of varying heights, and wedges in all shapes and sizes. Designs are as intricate as they are simple, and plentiful too. Some are bejeweled and metallic, while others are patent or plain. With countless numbers of designers and brands out there offering their own unique spin on these strappy creations, if you just can't be without a pair when the weather gets warm, you have options.
Might I suggest Dolce Vita? They have 3 fantastic things going for them: a bevy of styles, they're on trend, and available at affordable prices, think under $150. Nine West has several styles under $100. If you want a truly comfortable experience at a slightly higher cost check out Bolo's Argento. Stay on trend, but understated in a flat sandal from Pollini… I happen to LOVE this one!
For those of you with really deep pockets, all I can say is Balenciaga. True fashion aficionados will appreciate Creative Director, Nicolas Ghesquière's interpretations of this latest trend. In my opinion, he's nothing short of genius. Actress Jennifer Connelly seems to love them too. I've seen her in several tabloid mags wearing Balenciaga, not to mention she's all over their Spring '08 ad campaign.
One note of caution however, if you decide to take a walk on the Roman side, shopper beware. The gladiator signature is a strap that wraps around the ankle, so if you have large calves and ankles or short legs, this look may not be for you. Straps around the ankles tend to cut you off and make short legs appear even shorter and large calves appear larger yet. (Women like Gisele look amazing in them, but let's face it, most of us don't have her legs.)

Love the Softt Bergamos. I need a new pair of comfortable boots.
